Our catalogue currently includes epBooks and paperbacks but our future lies in publishing more paperbacks to meet the continuing demand for printed books - still the preference of most readers.

Our epBooks are supplied in Adobe PDF format which can either be read on a computer screen or you can print your own copy on any standard computer printer. See our news page for more information.

You can purchase books in our online bookshop but you can preview them before you buy. You can even read an extract if you visit each author's personal page.

Our aim has always been, and always will be, to publish great fiction written by exciting new authors and we hope you will enjoy these new stories from GoldStar Books, the imprint of Design Publications.

The Path to Martyrdom by John Taylor (UK)

Publisher:

GoldStar

ISBN: 1-904976-05-0

History

The Path to Martyrdom is a story about the short life of Anne Askewe, one of the last heretics to be burned at the stake during the reign of King Henry VIII.

Although her story has been told before this is not just another history book. John Taylor, a retired headmaster, has portrayed Anne’s life in such a way that the reader is totally involved with her conflicts and courage, her beliefs and her relationships. This is Tudor history played in real time - a living history

Anne Askewe was born into a family of wealthy Lincolnshire landowners in 1520. Her father, Sir William Ayscough, was a knight at the court of King Henry and was largely too preoccupied with royal duties to have great personal influence on his daughter’s upbringing. Hence she was never particularly close to him. Under Tudor conventions, women were little more than chattels and, so long as they followed the preachings of the Roman Catholic Church, they were raised for the sole purpose of marrying, having children, looking after their homes and serving their husbands with due humility. As Anne matured into a young lady, she formed her own opinions about life and she rejected the Catholic belief of transubstantiation. This was her downfall and she later paid the ultimate penalty.

Jacob's Journey

The old manor house at Maebury has lain empty for almost half a century, its secrets hidden from the world. Within the ruins, the library, largely undisturbed by the passage of time, holds the key to exciting adventures across time and spatial borders; secrets that can only be unlocked if the house is once again inhabited by a family with a young child who has the courage and determination to take up the challenge.

Until then, Percy, the elderly gardener who knows all the manor’s secrets, waits patiently, hoping that someone will inherit his powers before he dies.

Then a prospective buyer arrives with his wife and their son - a twelve-year-old called Jacob. Will he be the boy who can fulfil old Percy’s hopes?
